August 2024 Recap

Plug into the Future: Extend Pieces Everywhere with New AI-Powered Tools

Hey Devs,

The AI world is moving fast, and it's getting pretty wild out there. With new tools like Claude 3.5 and Gemini 1.5 Pro dropping, devs are getting more powerful toys to play with, leveling up productivity and workflows in ways we couldn’t have imagined a few years ago.

Here at Pieces, we’re pumped to be part of the action, bringing those LLMs closer to your work-in-progress journey. We're rolling out new tools that plug right into the dev environments you already love, helping you keep up with all the AI madness and making sure your workflow stays smooth and efficient.

TL;DR: What's New This Month?

  1. Use Pieces Everywhere: We launched the Pieces for Raycast Extension and the Pieces for Neovim Plugin, both open-sourced and built using the Pieces OS SDKs. The Raycast Extension enhances productivity for macOS users by enabling you to save snippets, selections, and browsing history, while the Neovim Plugin integrates LLM-powered features directly into your code editor. Personalize these plugins by making your first contribution 👨‍💻

  1. Live Context in Pieces Web Extension: You can now access Live Context in the Pieces Web Extension, allowing users to reduce context switching by leveraging workflow context for their conversations directly within the browser. Try it for free 🌐

  1. Improved Live Context with Time-Based Queries: We’ve enhanced Live Context across all Pieces products with time-based queries. Now, you can ask Pieces Copilot for historical context—such as "3 hours ago" or "yesterday"—for richer and more comprehensive interactions. ⏱️

  1. NDC Copenhagen: Pieces proudly sponsored Copenhagen Dev Fest 2024 from August 26th to 30th. NDC conferences are known for deep technical discussions, and we're excited to share highlights from the event on our YouTube channel soon. 🇩🇰

  1. MLH Global Hack Week for AI: We also sponsored Major League Hacking’s Global Hack Week focused on AI/ML. Our team led two workshops—Jim’s session on using Pieces for students and Shivay’s workshop on building Gen AI applications using Pieces SDK. 🌍

  2. Pieces For Students: Pieces can help students minimize wasted time and focus on what really matters—learning. In the coming months, we'll be conducting workshops at universities on how students can use AI effectively in their studies. If you’re a student or professor interested in hosting a workshop, we’d love to hear from you! Check out our latest blog post on how students can leverage Pieces. 👩‍🎓

  1. How to use Pieces as a Documentation/Technical Writer: Our recent live stream featured Richard Choi (ex-Appwrite Docs Engineer), where he demonstrated how Pieces can simplify documentation writing. Check out the replay on our YouTube channel. ✍️

  2. Tsavo’s Fireside Chat with Akash Gupta: Pieces CEO, Tsavo Knott, had an insightful fireside chat with Akash Gupta of GreyOrange about driving development efficiencies in SaaS. They discussed key challenges and innovations in AI and automation that are shaping the future of software development. Learn from their discussion here. 🤖

  3. Coding in Context: The Pieces Podcast: Last month we sat down with Lizzie Siegle from Cloudflare to discuss AI at the Edge. Be sure to follow the Coding in Context podcast to catch our next episode. 🎧
