June 2024 Recap

We’re Launching on Product Hunt for our 10.0.0 Release!

Hey Devs,

This just in: We officially announced our $13.5M Series A funding today! 🎉

We’ll be using the latest financing to continue developing new features for the workflow copilot you already know and love, and to scale our productivity tools to teams and enterprises 😊

Speaking of new features, last night we rolled out Pieces OS version 10.0.0 which supports new local LLMs like Phi-3 and Llama 3, better syntax highlighting, several performance improvements, and Live Context functionality in the IDE plugins. Update to the latest version and let us know what you think!

To celebrate these breakthroughs, we’re launching on Product Hunt today! Your support means the world to us. Help us spread the word about Pieces Copilot+ to developers around the world by supporting our launch here.

TL;DR: What's New This Month?

  1. Pieces.app Website Migration: Move over Webflow, because we migrated (most) of our website to Framer. We’re excited about the new design and improved accessibility, and are actively working to host the rest of our site on this new platform. Check it out!

  1. Recalling Recall: Developers have been weary about the privacy and security implications of LLMs capturing context from your entire workflow, especially when it comes to tools like Microsoft Recall. Rest assured with Pieces, your experience is completely air-gapped. We hosted an AMA live stream diving under the hood of Live Context within Pieces Copilot+, proving our commitment to user privacy and security–watch the recording if you missed it!

  2. Enhanced Markdown Support: Ever struggled to select text in a copilot message or seen our copilot return natural text within a code block? Our brand new markdown engine solves these issues and more, ensuring a smoother experience. You'll also notice significantly faster boot-up speeds, better code block handling, and more.

  1. Join our Weekly Live Streams: Jim Bennett, our Head of Developer Advocacy, has been doing an outstanding job with his weekly "Learning Pieces in Public" live streams, featuring various guests. Learn how to use Pieces with Jim during this series!

  2. Coding in Context: The Pieces Podcast: Our second podcast episode is now live! In this episode, we discuss the difficulties in building community around dev tools, the role of the modern developer advocate, and what companies look for when building out their DevRel team. If you’re interested in becoming a better developer advocate, we recommend checking this one out!

Open Source Updates

  1. Our team has been hard at work improving the developer experience around building with Pieces SDKs. We’ve created copilot wrappers around the Python and TypeScript Pieces SDKs to simplify the interaction with your applications by providing a more user-friendly interface to the underlying Pieces OS Client SDKs. Now it’s a whole lot easier to implement a conversational copilot into your app.

  2. We will have our next Open Source Meetup on 13th July at 12 PM EST. We are looking forward to seeing you there 😎 Here’s our last meetup on Live Context, GPT-4o, and live demos for community-driven projects!

  3. If you are interested in being part of our regular meetups and showcasing something you’ve built with Pieces SDKs, please join us on Discord and sync up with our team! We’re always looking for ways to support our community. There are also a lot of opportunities to build some cool projects for events like the Hashnode AI Hackathon where you can leverage the Pieces SDKs to build innovative AI projects.
